Q: I am trying to find a good filter for wood smoke. My fiance and I just moved in to our first home and it turns out our neighbor uses a wood-burning stove for his heat. The smoke has been getting into our house and making some nights absolutely unbearable. For now, we are walking around with nose-filters and gas masks to avoid getting too sick. It looks like the MicroSponge filter would be the best option for small particulates like smoke, correct? How about for an odor/VOC medium, which of the two options would be best for smoke (carbon or zeolite)? Thanks in advance!

Asked by: Austino Longo - 10/28/2016
A: I am sorry you are dealing with such an awful situation! Yes, Microsponge would help along with the Zeolite filters for the VOC's. You may also want to look into the Austin Air Cleaners. These units have a large canister of activated carbon/zeolite granules that will really help to absorb the smoke odor. These units can be under the category "Air Purifiers".

Q: I have purchased MicroSponge Filters since 2013. I have the old style frame that you have to push the filter into. I would like to obtain a new style hinge frame to make it easier to install filter. Can these be purchased separately, I need size 23 1/2 in x 23 1/2 in.?

Asked by: David Bailey - 7/6/2018
A: Yes, you can order a new frame and with a trial size refill of just 1. I highly recommend either the Snap or Hinge frame when using our pleated materials.

Q: What is the difference between a snap vs. a hinge frame?

Asked by: Pete - 10/11/2018
A: The hinge frame has an angle aluminum and a hinge surrounding that. When you replace the filter media, you open up the hinge and lay the material down and then close the hinges over it. The Snap frame is two peaces of angle aluminum that have magnets attached to them so that when you place the top angle into the bottom, the magnets attach together and seal it up.

Q: I have a question about the furnace filters. I really want to get a good efficient air filter that is going to trap all the dust and germs and whatever that goes through the filter. My dad said ARS told him that the cheap filters are the best and it wont make the furnace work as hard. I don't believe that to be true at all. I need to know from you guys that if I get one of your smart filters is it going to make our furnace work harder to push air through it? We have a Temptstar furnace. I know I read that your filters work for any type of furnace. Our filters are 14 by 20 in width and length.

Asked by: Jason Jones - 3/11/2019
A: Most a/c technicians are not fully educated in the filtration industry so they just tell you to use what they are used to providing. You want a high quality filter so that you can keep those coils nice and clean, prolonging the life of the unit. As long as you change your filters in the time frame that we provide to you then there should be no problem with your air flow at all. Please watch our videos on measuring help to make sure you order the exact size you need for your unit. Our filter is not like the ones you purchase in the stores and we want to make sure it fits perfectly!

Q: My filter opening measures 20x25x1 but it has a number of screws protruding into the opening. This is no problem for the cardboard filters I am currently using. Will it be a problem for the rigid aluminum permanent frame getting a tight fit?

Asked by: Jonathan - 7/12/2020
A: This would be a problem. You want to make sure that if the opening from edge to edge is 20 x 25 then you want to cut that size down about 3/8" to account for the screw heads. We have videos on the site to show you exactly how to measure to make sure you order the correct size for your unit. Remember, cardboard filters will say one size, but if you measure it you will find a different size.

Q: I heard that MERV-14 can potentially damage HVAC systems unless you have a powerful Enough system to handle it. I’ve heard that most residential HVAC isn’t designed to handle it. Is this true? I live in a apartment and I don’t want to be held accountable for killing my apartment’s system. I really REALLY want MERV-14 filtration because I have really bad allergies. I currently use MERV-13 because that’s supposedly ( according to what I’ve read) the safest level you can go without potentially damaging the system).

Asked by: Jeffrey - 4/3/2023
A: My Microsponge material is one of the best selling filters we offer and it is MERV 14. We do not hear of any restriction problems with this material at all. With our custom made frame with the gasket you will get MERV 14 thought the life of the filter and you will notice the difference right away if you suffer with allergies.

Q: Hello, trying to order a custom micro sponge filter with 7 3/8” length, but the shortest length you offer online is 8. Can you offer a 7 3/8” length in this filter? Thanks, Andrea

Asked by: Andrea - 4/9/2023
A: Yes, we can make that size. Please order the smallest size you can so price is correct and before you check out there is a comment section. In that section you will write the correct dimension that you want of 7 3/8 rather then 8".

Q: I have an air handler filter that is honeywell size 20x20x4. The custom size purchase options don't include a height. Is this ignored when choosing a frame or are these frames not suggested for 4 inch cavities? Should I make any additional choices when selecting a size for my air handler?

Asked by: Solas - 4/14/2023
A: I am sorry but we only make 1" filters not 4" in thickness.
